A Battle Between Politics and Prophecy

The extremely shameful and despicable behavior displayed by President Obama and his administration towards Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahudid last week did not go unnoticed; not by the God fearing Christians of America; not by the world and most importantly not by God.

The ignorance of the Israelites in disobeying God's Word cost them great heartache and destruction as written in the Book Of Judges. The frightningly parallel ignorance of Obama's actions, are increasing in a magnitude rivaling that of the Israelites of that time. Obama's actions will be partly to blame for the heartache, destruction and judgement that is coming for America or any country setting themselves up in opposition towards God's chosen nation.

A blanket of silence regarding Israel has enveloped Washington following meetings at the White House between Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Barack Obama. The two leaders met to discuss the deepening rift between their countries, but instead of the usual statements and public remarks that follow such meetings a "silence that speaks volumes" as one British paper called it has made it clear that the issues between America and Israel are far from resolved.

The President took several unusual steps to humiliate the Prime Minister. There was no state dinner, as is customary for visits at this level. There were no official photographs released of the meetings, and no statements were issued to the press. The President even left the Prime Minister behind while he went to dinner, part of what one member of Congress described as "a hazing in stages." Things were so tense that members of the Israeli delegation feared to use the phones they were provided and insisted on meeting face to face-to-face to avoid eavesdropping.

Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu convened his senior ministers in Jerusalem on Friday afternoon to discuss the demands made by US President Barack Obama. Because of negative atmospherics and amid a paucity of hard information, the demands have been widely characterized as among the most difficult in recent memory. Israel knows the US President can make its life a living hell economically but refuses to back down.

Officials in the Prime Minister’s Office continued to throw a blackout on the Netanyahu-Obama meeting, as well as giving only very sketchy information about the commitments the US is demanding of Israel as a precursor to starting the proximity talks with the Palestinians. According to officials, the US wants these commitments by Saturday so it can take them to the Arab League meeting in Libya and receive that organization's backing for starting proximity talks.

President Obama demanded that Israel freeze all construction in Judea and Samaria. Prime Minister Netanyahu told him, “No we can’t.” The US also demanded that all construction in East Jerusalem be stopped, and to that the Prime Minister said, “NO, we can’t.”

The president’s advisors threatened the Prime Minister if he did not comply with the wishes of the president.

Because of the extraordinary news blackout it is not yet known all of the topics that were discussed, but my contacts indicate that topics moved beyond Jerusalem and issues with the Palestinians to discussing the growing threat of a nuclear Iran as well. But there is no doubt that the major topic on the table was America's continued refusal to recognize Israel's right to determine the fate of Jerusalem and its increased pressure on Israel to compromise and negotiate with the Palestinians. Growing numbers of experts believe the Obama Administration is working to bring down the Netanyahu government and replace it with one that will be more willing to compromise.

Despite intense and prolonged pressure from the American government, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stood firm in his commitment to maintaining Israel's sovereignty. "Jerusalem is not a settlement—it's our capital!" he proclaimed on his visit to America this week. He further stated that Israel's policy toward building homes in Jerusalem has remained unchanged for more than forty years and that it will not be changed now, despite the protests and threats of the Obama Administration.

Remarks this week by Jerusalem's Mayor, Nir Barkat, made Israel's position very clear. "I do not think anybody intended, naturally, to try to insult" [by announcing new construction during Vice President Biden's visit], he said in an interview at the Israeli Embassy in London. "But let us not get mixed up. Planning in the city of Jerusalem has to, should and will continue. We want to be sensitive to the American Administration but I want to make sure people realise there is no [housing] freeze in the city of Jerusalem."

"You have consistently demonstrated the moral clarity that is necessary to defend Israel from the lies and distortions of its enemies."
(Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu)

The Bible declares that we are to be a witness unto the Lord in Jerusalem. It is the only city God claims as His own. It is called the "City of God" and the "Holy City."
"For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch." (Isaiah 62:1)

"In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:" (2 Kings 21:7b)

God has put His Name in Jerusalem. He promises a curse upon the nations that come against Jerusalem.

"And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem." (Zechariah 12:9)

Yet today America is coming against Jerusalem! This is a tragedy and we must speak out!

Secretary Clinton told my dear friend Prime Minister Netanyahu that the United States considers Israel's attempt to build homes in East Jerusalem extremely negative and demanded it be stopped.

Please pray a Psalm 122:6 blessing on all those who do. I will prosper those who love thee.
"Mike Evans has been a dear friend and supporter of Jerusalem for more than two decades…International opinion is being swayed in favor of two capitals in one city. We know this is not the solution and that two capitals in Jerusalem will lead to a redivided city. It is more important than ever that we rally support for Jerusalem." (Teddy Kollek, former mayor of Jerusalem)

If you remain silent, the Obama administration will put Israel through unspeakable hell. Jerusalem has never been the capital of a Palestinian state. Our silence will be consent of support for Hillary Clinton, the UN, the EU, and Russia to boycott Israel and encourage them to instigate indescribable pain and suffering on Israel.

For over 2,000 years, the Jewish people have prayed, "Next year, Jerusalem." For many, it was the last words spoken before they were thrown into the ovens during the Holocaust. To tell 1,600 Jewish families they cannot live in Jerusalem is racism. If a political leader in America were to say that African-Americans could only live in half of Washington, DC, he or she would be out of office before sunset.

"Mike Evans is a true ambassador to Jerusalem. His efforts at peace conferences and the UN have earned him great respect and admiration." (Ehud Olmert, former mayor of Jerusalem)

Anti-Defamation League National Director Abe Foxman said the current US criticism of Israel was "especially troubling." "We cannot remember an instance when such harsh language was directed at a friend and ally of the United States," his statement continued. "One can only wonder how far the US is prepared to go in distancing itself from Israel in order to placate the Palestinians in the hope they see it is in their interest to return to the negotiating table."

We must raise our voices in support of Israel and turn America from the path of cursing the Chosen People and coming against Jerusalem. The consequences of God's judgment will be severe if we do not act immediately.

Your Ambassador to Jerusalem,

Dr. Michael Evans
