Great Minds Equal Great Results

Jedidiah Morse (1761-1826), who was a notable American geographer and clergyman, and most influential for his dissemination of geographical knowledge about the American. Rev. Morse textbooks became a staple for students in the United States.

"To the kindly influence of Christianity, we owe that degree of civil freedom, and political and social happiness which mankind now enjoys.
In proportion, as the genuine effects of Christianity and diminished in any nation, either through unbelief, or the corruption of its doctrines in the same proportion will the people of the nation recede from the blessings of genuine freedom and approximate the miseries of complete despotism."
- Jedidiah Morse

There are actually two messages here. The 1st is very interesting, but the 2nd is absolutely astounding - and explains a lot.
A recent "Investor's Business Daily" article provided very interesting statistics from a survey by the United Nations International Health Organization.

Percentage of men and women who survived a cancer five years after diagnosis:
U.S. .......65%
England..46%
Canada ..42%

Percentage of patients diagnosed with diabetes who received treatment within six months:
U.S....... 93%
England..15%
Canada ..43%

Percentage of seniors needing hip replacement who received it within six months:
U.S. .......90%
England ..15%
Canada ...43%

Percentage referred to a medical specialist who see one within one month:
U.S. ......,77%
England ..40%
Canada....43%

Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million people:
U.S. .......71%
England ..14%
Canada ...18%

Percentage of seniors (65+), with low income, who say they are in "excellent health":
U.S. .......12%
England....2%
Canada ....6%

And now for the last statistic:  National Health Insurance?
U.S. ........NO
England...YES
Canada....YES

Check this last set of statistics!!

The percentage of each past president's cabinet who had worked in the private business sector prior to their appointment to the cabinet.
You know what the private business sector is a real-life business, not a government job. Here are the percentages.
T. Roosevelt.................... 38%
Taft................................. 40%
Wilson ........................... 52%
Harding........................... 49%
Coolidge.......................... 48%
Hoover ........................... 42%
F. Roosevelt ................... 50%
Truman........................... 50%
Eisenhower..................... 57%
Kennedy......................... 30%
Johnson.......................... 47%
Nixon.............................. 53%
Ford................................ 42%
Carter............................. 32%
Reagan............................ 56%
GH Bush......................... 51%
Clinton ............................ 39%
GW Bush......................... 55%
Obama.............................. 8%

This helps to explain the incompetence of this administration: only 8% of them have ever worked in private business!
That's right! Only eight percent---the least, by far, of the last 19 presidents! And these people are trying to tell our big corporations how to run their business?
How can the president of a major nation and society, the one with the most successful economic system in world history, stand and talk about business when he's never worked for one? Or about jobs when he has never really had one? And when it's the same for 92% of his senior staff and closest advisers? They've spent most of their time in academia, government and/or non-profit jobs or as "community organizers."

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

Conservatism vs. Liberalism

Funny how this young lady's eyes and ears were finally opened to the truth.

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs.

The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?"

She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."

Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back,"That's a crazy idea. How would that be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off."

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently,
"Welcome to the conservative side of the fence."

If anyone has a better explanation of the difference between conservative and liberal or progressive or neo-con I'm all ears.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!
If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.
If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.
If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.
If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.
If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)
If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.
If a conservative reads this, he'll share it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A liberal will delete it because he's "offended."
Well, I shared it to you; I hope and pray that you too will share this with others.
