Read Isaiah 38-42

Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law (Isaiah 42:1-4).

Seven hundred years after Isaiah’s words were recorded, Jesus walked among the people of Judea, healing all those who sought His aid from the multitude that followed Him (Matt. 12:13-15). Jesus dealt with the multitude with the quiet confidence of a man who understood and accepted both His position and His mission. He did not seek attention, nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. As a matter of fact, He charged them (those He had healed) that they should not make Him known (Matt.12:16). He did this that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias (Isaiah) the prophet, saying, Behold My soul is well pleased: I will put My spirit upon Him, and He shall shew judgment to the Gentiles (12:17-18). Jesus, the King of kings and LORD of lords (Tim. 6:14-15; Rev. 19:16), chose to present Himself to the world as an unassuming servant quietly and efficiently going about the business of God.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross (Phil. 2:5-8). Jesus was born, died, and resurrected in payment for our sins and to break the bonds of death (1 Cor. 15:3-4,56), but He dedicated His life to providing us with a model for our own lives in His service. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you (John 13:15). And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these (Mark 12:30-31). Every moment that our LORD spent alive upon this earth, He acted upon this love. Giving no thoufht to His own needs He gave everything He had to meet the needs of others. He acted upon the authority of God (John7:16; 12:49: 14:24), following the path that had been laid before Him since the beginning of the world. If we truly love Him as we say we do, how can we do any less?

But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all (Mark 10: 42-45). Thought for Today: The only thing of importance that we need to show the world is our love of God.
